Jobs for Teens in the DFW Area

Most first jobs are fine. You fold shirts, you take orders, you go home.

This one is different in a specific way: you get paid to run bowling lanes, host birthday parties, and lock people in escape rooms. Then you clock out and play the whole building for free.

Here’s what the job actually pays, how old you have to be, and how to apply. If you’re a parent reading over a shoulder, skip to the section on school schedules.

Quick answers

  • Minimum age: 16 or 15 for party hosts!
  • Pay: $15+
  • Hours: part-time, scheduled around school and sports
  • Locations: Rockwall and Greenville (Shenaniganz), plus eight Escapology locations across Texas

Working at Shenaniganz

Shenaniganz is a family entertainment center, which means the building has bowling, laser tag, arcade, birthday parties, mini golf, go karts, and a full kitchen. Somebody has to run all of it. That’s the job.

What you’d actually do

Birthday party host. You run the party. Greet the family, get the kids to their lane or their room, keep the group moving between activities, bring the food out, handle the cake moment. It’s the most social job in the building and the one that teaches you the most about handling people.

Bowling counter attendant. Shoes, lanes, scoring, and troubleshooting when a pinsetter jams. You’re the first person guests talk to.

Game room and attractions attendant. Running laser tag briefings, loading go karts, resetting VR, keeping the arcade going.

Kitchen and food service. Rozie’s Grill. Fast-paced on weekends, and genuinely useful experience if you ever want a restaurant job later.

What it pays

The average rate is $15, but we have options for everyone based on experience! Skip the fast food joint and work somewhere you matter.

The perks

You get in free. Bowling, lazer tag, arcade play, mini golf, and go karts, on your own time, at no cost.

You also get discounts on food and on Shenaniganz parties, which matters more than it sounds like when your friends want to do something on a Friday.

Beyond the free stuff: management gets promoted from inside. Most of the shift leads and managers here started at the counter. And once a year the entire facility shuts down so the staff can have the place to themselves.

What employees say

“It’s loud, it’s chaos, and I’d rather be here than at home. That’s the review. 10 out of 10 doctors reccommend.” -Laci

How to apply at Shenaniganz

Submit an online application. You can apply to as many positions as you want and we’ll help figure out the best fit. After we review it, we’ll call you in for an interview. If it’s a match, we get you scheduled for training.

Most applicants hear back within 6 days!

Working at Escapology Escape Rooms

Escapology is a different kind of job. You’re not serving anybody. You’re watching a team of six people work a puzzle on camera, deciding when they need a nudge, and delivering it without giving anything away.

Game masters run the room from a control booth: monitoring, hinting, resetting props between groups, and doing the reveal at the end when a team escapes with 40 seconds left. It’s the closest thing to a first job that’s actually a skill.

The venues are built out in a steampunk design, so the environment you’re standing in for a shift beats a stockroom by a wide margin.

What employees say

“First job where being the person who overthinks things is useful.” -Zander

For parents: how this works around school

The two questions parents ask first are about hours and about whether the schedule bends for school.

Texas hour rules, briefly. Teens have real limits: no work during school hours, no more than 3 hours on a school day or 18 hours in a school week, and no work between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. during the school year. Between June 1 and Labor Day those evening hours extend to 9 p.m. Teens 16 and 17 have no state hour restrictions.

How we schedule. It is all based on position, person and schedule. We understand that teens are in a crucial part of their lives and will want to experience games, dances, vacations, and more. We work with the staff we have and never set unreasonable expectations.

When to apply

Hiring runs year-round, but the windows fill fast:

  • Spring break
  • Summer
  • Fall and holidays

Applying two months ahead of when you want to start is the single best thing you can do.
